Description
The Red Kite is an example of successful species introduction. In Victorian times it was common and a land based version of the seagull, useful for cleaning up the streets of rubbish! Shot to near extinction it was the subject of several successful reintroduction programmes. Northamptonshire is now a stronghold of the Red Kite since the release of 30 Spanish Red Kites in 2000 the population has grown to around 200. There is nothing more beautiful on a Summer's day than to watch a Red Kite.
