Description
The steep slopes on the Southern edge of Wastwater, leading up to the summits of Whin Rigg and Illgill Head, are known as The Wast Water Screes and are the result of ice and water erosion of a group of volcanic rocks known as the Borrowdale Volcanic Group. I love the colours in the scree and what look like streams and rivers frozen in time. Some actually find a path up to the top of the Scree, above the clouds, some 2,000 feet above Wastwater, the deepest lake in England.
