Description
The North York Moors is the largest area of heather moorland in the UK which, in total, accounts for some 70% of the worlds moors. The most common Heather is also known as Ling which in earlier centuries was used for burning in the home as well as for making brooms. Heather is often burnt on the Moors to encourage the growth of new young plants.
